We Bought a Zoo
Remember that movie?! The character Matt Damon plays in the movie follows his heart after suffering a tragic loss of his wife. He goes out on a limb and buys a zoo. His intuition was strong despite others warnings against it. Following the desire of his heart he moved forward with reckless abandon. The ending is so satisfying. His goals and dreams realized. He found love, his kids settled in and and felt loved. Even more he was serving others.
What does this movie have to with today’s blog post? WE BOUGHT A SALON!
A little back ground before I explain. In my past, present (and looks like future life) I am a hairstylist. I have been a stylist for nearly 30 years. HEY I STARTED REALLY YOUNG! For the last 2 years I have been transitioning to my Interior Decorator business. I work behind the chair 3 days a week, I have an Etsy store (Carpe’ Market) , I also have an E-design business (Carpe’ Design Group). Sounds really busy huh? Somehow I manage to keep up with all 3 fairly easily.
The idea to buy the salon where I work came up about a year ago, I immediately shut it down. I was like “where in the hell did that come from?”
You see, I owned a salon before. I sold it about 10 years ago right after my youngest son was born. If I had a $1 bill for every time I said that I would never own a salon again………
Don’t let me give you the wrong impression, I loved it. I really did. It was just not the right time for me to have that sort of responsibility. I was going through a divorce and having a baby. My plate was full. I found myself a newly single mother of 3 and a salon owner. I know many successful single mothers. Although I knew at that time this was not what my focus needed to be on.
My memories of being a salon owner (especially towards the end) weren’t just about being a salon owner. It was about having a baby and going through an ugly divorce. Enough of the past lets fast forward 11 years. My life is so grand right now. My then baby boy is 11. I have a 16yr old girl who is sweet to me. Rare I know! And I am married to the most amazing man on planet earth. He has allowed me to be me and pursue my passions.
When I presented the idea of buying the salon he said without hesitation I think you should do it. 3 months later I am a proud owner of a salon. There are 13 stylist currently working in the salon. I couldn’t ask for a better group.
It’s a beautiful salon with good bones. It is time to update since it has been in business for six years. This part is what excites me the most. It gets my creative juices flowing. I get to change the decor at the salon! I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent on Pinterest looking for inspiration. The ideas just keep flowing. In the coming months I will post pictures of before and after.
I have to tell you I never thought my interior design business would overlap into my business behind the chair. The universe had a plan that I could never even have imagined. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to incorporate all of my passions under one roof.
I love to help others succeed. I have the ability to show people their potential that they don’t see in themselves. I love collaborating with a group to accomplish a goal. It’s the best feeling in the world.
I am obsessed with interior design. Everywhere I go I pay attention to the finest detail. In restaurants, hotels, boutiques, and of course homes. Don’t get me started on vintage decor. It’s by far my most favorite.
It only made sense to go into this venture. The transition has been so smooth. I have never felt more right about something.
Would you like to see some before pictures of the salon? Ok! I will post them. Before I do let me ask you a question. What is something you said you would never do and you are now doing it? NEVER SAY NEVER
