Kitchen Reno Before and After

Merry Christmas Eve!! I just got back from doing some last minute shopping. Little things like Christmas cards and tissue paper. Yes I am still wrapping packages. Or I should say putting them in a bag. Do you do that also?

I decided to show you our kitchen renovation since it’s cleaned up (this happens occasionally) and it opens up into our living room. Before our living room was completed it was difficult to take phots of the kitchen and not show our unfinished living room.

I want to prepare you for the before photos. They are UGLY!! I mean outdated from 1979. Original cabinets and lovely scroll work. I know you can’t wait to see the before photos (scroll down If you can’t wait)

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be able to photograph the kitchen from this angle. The walls in the entry hall were painted a light grey and had orange peel texture. Now the kitchen , living , entry hall and hallway are the same texture and paint color. The kitchen table is made by my husband. We picked up a grinder base stand in Canton. And made the top out of butcher block. Very kid friendly. Just needs to be oiled every once in a while.

My favorite part of the kitchen. May or may not have something to do with whiskey. Here my husband hung the shelves with cable and turnbuckles. This area started out to be a coffee bar, but it evolved into just a bar. No complaints here.

I have to say our kitchen is hard to photograph because there are 2 windows in here. I’m grateful for the windows we have but I certainly would love it it we had more. When we renovated the kitchen I considered white cabinets but decided against it because white shows every fingerprint and splash of food. And a house full of hungry kids with white cabinets is not a good combo. It might work for others but not for my crew.

I love that the cabinets go all the way to the ceiling. Two years later we are finally filling them up.

If you haven’t noticed by now I really like cutting boards. These are special ones that will never feel the sharp edge of a knife. Ok are you ready for the before pictures? We almost forgot to take pictures before demo. Check out that scrollwork in front of the window. FANCY. And that road block AKA peninsula.

What ever you do don’t open that door! Just kidding it’s just the pantry.

How about that mini cabinet above the fridge. 1979’s version of “built in”.
